Brooks Ambulance
Inc. was established in 1979 when Leroy and Julie Brooks purchased
the "then current" ambulance service from Erv Metzger.
Along with the purchase of the business, Brooks also bought a
small farm and machine shed on the north side of Waupun. The machine
shed was later converted and used to store ambulances and their
home doubled as the
business'
office.
A few years later, Brooks added an addition to their home which served as the new office area as well as the "crew quarters." The "crew quarters" was utilized by out-of-town employees as a lounge and sleeping area while on duty. (Picture on right - Leroy and Julie Brooks)
In 1998, the business office and "crew
quarters" were moved to a large building that Brooks purchas
ed on Main St. in
downtown Waupun.
Today, Brooks Ambulance Inc. is a State of Wisconsin Licensed Advanced Life Support (ALS) service with a fleet of nine ambulances and a coverage area of 164 square miles containing 14,486 residents. Brooks averages approximately 2,200 calls per year.
Brooks Ambulance Inc. employs a total
of approximately 65 full and part-time Emergency Medical Technicians
(Eats), Registered Nurses, and administrative assista
nts.
Brooks contracts 911 emergency calls with the townships of Waupun, Alto, and Oakfield in southern Fond du Lac County and parts of the townships of Chester and Trenton in northern Dodge County. Brooks Ambulance also contracts emergency ambulance services with the City of Waupun and the Wisconsin Department of Corrections.
In addition to responding to emergency calls, Brooks also provides non-emergency hospital-to-hospital and intra-facility patient transports to and from hospitals and nursing homes.
Leroy and Julie Brooks are well know
in the city of Waupun and surrounding
communities for their commitment to high quality and professional
patient care. Leroy and Julie Brooks state that it is "family
tradition" to show care and concern for others and that their
parents raised them to show kindness towards all people. And now
a third generation, Rob Brooks (Leroy and Julie's son) and his
wife, Leah, are an active part in the ambulance service in charge
of managing day-to-day operations. (Picture on right - Rob
