WHAT ABOUT THE MARCH OF DIMES? For over a decade every Right to Life chapter in the U.S. has endorsed this boycott, and still many who are not informed fail to understand. The March of Dimes does a lot of good with well over 90% of their dollars. But it tolerates "a little eugenic Auschwitz" on the side. For all of the good that MOD has done for our society, this evil may in balance, ultimately do far more harm. WHAT HAS MARCH OF DIMES DONE? It was they who first funded and set up, all across the country, genetic testing centers. They popularized amniocentesis in the mid-trimester.* This has become a search and destroy mission, and has taught the nation that the "answer" to an unborn baby who is handicapped is to kill him or her before birth. THE MARCH OF DIMES PAYS FOR ABORTIONS? No, they do not. They pay for and facilitate only the search and identify portion, then they stand back and do not protest the almost inevitable (97-98%) killing that then occurs. Right to Life has repeatedly asked them to stop doing mid-trimester amniocentesis (not late ones which can benefit both baby and mother). Such testing has only one purpose: to identify the child's condition. There is no medical condition identifiable in the mid-trimester that is treatable in the mid-trimester. BUT MOD SPEAKS OF TWO TREATABLE CONDITIONS! The ones that they speak of, both Methylmalonic Acidemia and Biotin deficiency, can be discovered in mid-pregnancy. Neither however is treatable until later in the third trimester. The testing is not necessary in the mid-trimester unless you want to kill the babies before they get too old. MOD ARGUES THAT BY IDENTIFYING "NORMALS", THEY OFTEN SAVE BABIES THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN ABORTED An analogy [to this kind of logic] would have been a testing center outside Auschwitz where suspected Jews would be taken. Some would be found to be "normal" Aryans and their lives would be spared. Of course, the Jews would be gassed. Would you contribute to such a testing center? AND SO THE BOYCOTT? Yes. Right to Life suggests that all pro-life people withhold contributions from the March of Dimes until it ceases to be a part of this eugenic death selection process. |
