Subjects and Predicates

The subject tells what  or whom the sentence is about.
  1. A turtle lives attached to its' shell.
  2. Sometimes crickets chirp very quickly.
The predicate tells what the subject does or is.
  1. A turtle lives attached to its' shell.
  2. Sometimes crickets chirp very quickly.
You can correct a fragment by adding a subject or a predicate.
  1. Frisky gray goats _______________________.
  2. ______________________ have sharp quills.

will eat string and paper.  /  Large porcupines

 

Correct these fragments on your own

  2. Is the author of this story.
  3. Some people.

Underline the subject of each sentence and circle the predicate of each sentence.

  1. Dogs only wag their tails when they are happy.
  2. Ostrich may not be a very smart.
  3. Simon Seymour was a science teacher.
