Chapter 15 Collecting and Recording Data
Information can be processes by collecting, organizing, interpreting, and communicating data.

Vocabulary to learn;
Lesson 1
Data is information about people and things. Data can be organized and sorted.
Tally table uses tally marks to show how often something happens.
Mary had a little lamb
It's fleece was white as snow
And everywhere that Mary went
The lamb was sure to go.

Frequency Table uses numbers to show how often something happens.

Lesson 2
An experiment is a test done to record data.
Example... Which letter in the alphabet is the most often used and which letter is the least often used?
Create a tally chart to record your data first. (use tally marks to record each letter you read in a paragraph from a story you are reading.)

Using the information you recorded on your tally chart, create a frequency chart that shows what happened in your experiment. ( use numbers to show how often a letter was used in the paragraph you read.)
Lesson 3
A survey is a set of questions that a group of people are asked.
Results are the answers of a survey.
Ask a group of people a question like "What is your favorite Nascar driver?"
Use what you have learned about tally charts and frequency charts to make a table to use to record your data.
Lesson 4
Grouping data is organizing information by ways that they are alike such as; by color, by size, by shape, or some other way they are alike.
How could you group the students in your class?
How could you group the members of your family?
Is there another way you could group them?

Do you know what these terms mean?

Can you take a survey and create a table to show your results?
Can you answer questions using a table?
