Communities in Mexico and the United States have similarities and differences.

A World of Communities

Urban, rural, and suburban communities in both countries.
All communities have things that are the same and things that are different.

Living in Mexico City

  4. different - special culture - is the way of life of a group of people
  5. different - main language - Spanish and other native languages
Many Faces of Mexico City
  1. transportation - subway
  2. Subway station, Pino Suarez, built on remains of an old Aztec Indian temple.
  3. Aztec culture is a part of Mexico's past.
  4. People move to Mexico City every day looking for jobs and homes; a better life.  There are not enough jobs/homes so many people are poor and this is a problem Mexico City deals tries to solve.
A Suburb Grows
  1. Cuajimalpa is a rural village 14 miles from Mexico City.
  2. jobs - farmers, coal miners, woodcutters
  3. Cuajimlpa is changing; new homes and building being built on farm land... becoming a suburban community.
  4. More people living outside of Mexico City travel to city for jobs creating increased traffic problems.
Communities Change
  1. Cuajimalpa is blend of old and new; old market place/modern supermarkets.
  2. old residents / new neighbors moving to Cuajimalpa
  3. National Park - land set aside by a government for all people to enjoy.  Its a large pine -tree forest.
  4. As the cities grow air pollution is a concern.  People can use their cars less to help make their community a better place.
