A Step Back in Time

Jamestown Settlement is a living history museum.  A living history museum takes you back in time.  At a living history museum the people dress, talk, and do things just as they did long ago.  A living history museum, like Jamestown Settlement, shows how the English colonists and the Powhatan lived in Jamestown in 1600's.

English Village

Use carefully recreated artifacts to make it seem real/ like the past
English houses were made of plaster and grass.
Clothes made of wool and cotton.
Ships instruments made of iron and metal.
Three ships; Susan Constant, Godspeed, and Discovery in harbor
Colonists animals; pigs, chickens, goats

Powhatan Village

grinding corn
cooking meals
making ropes
homes made with wood frames covered with grass (round in shape)

 

Learning History

The lives of the colonists and Powhatans very different from each other.
The  lives of the colonists and Powhatans very similar in that both needed homes, cloths, food, and both took care of their communities.
