Study Skills: Using the Library
The library contains books and other useful sources of information and is helpful for researching information.
Vocabulary;
| research ... to look for information. | |
| reference books... have many facts in them or section of library where books with lots of facts are located. | |
| encyclopedia ... books or sets of books with facts about people, places, things and events. Topics are listed in alphabetical order. | |
| guide words are on the top of the page and tell you what the first subject and the last subject on a page are. | |
| nonfiction books are about real people, places, and events. They are group by topic (books about dogs are all together in one section). | |
| fiction books are made-up stories and are grouped in alphabetical order by authors last name. | |
| author is the person who writes a book. Look for a book by an author using the author's last name, or the book's title. | |
| Internet... can be like a library and used to research information. It has sites that can provide you with encyclopedias, dictionaries, and many other sources of information. |
