Nouns are special words;

Identifying nouns in a sentence:
The wolf, feeling the weight leave his back, ran to his den.
wolf - person, weight - thing, back - thing, den - place
A third-generation Japanese American, Sheila Hamanaka is proud of her heritage.
third-generation - thing, Japanese - Proper noun/person, American - Proper noun/person, Sheila Hamanaka - Proper noun/person, heritage - thing
