RPC over HTTP Security Alert

This probably carries about the same risk as the well-documented RPC hole exploited by MSBlaster and Nachi. The 'RPC' hole and the 'RPC over HTTP' hole are different, even if you patched your computer for the 'RPC' hole, it still leaves you open for an attack that exploits the 'RPC over HTTP' hole. Like the 'RPC' hole, you just need to be connected to the intrenet to be exposed by this security hole, no web browsing or email usage required.

Microsoft® Windows ME®, Windows® 98 and Windows® 95 are not affected by this hole. All non-Microsoft® operating systems such as Apple Macintosh, Unix, GNU/Linux, and BSD are not affected by this hole.

Here are patches for Microsoft® Windows NT® 4 Workstation, Microsoft® Windows® 2000 and Microsoft® Windows® XP provided by Microsoft®. These and other patches are listed below, also provided by Microsoft®.

The security bulletin seen on Microsoft's Security Site
