We owned two of these special dogs. Grace (left) died in December, 2001. She was an 8 year old female Ruby Cavalier. She was very special and we miss her terribly. It broke our hearts to lose her. Copper (right) is a 6 year old male tri-colored Cavalier. Grace died from congestive heart failure due to Mitral Valve Disease.Copper also has Mitral Valve Disease (MVD) which is quite common in this breed. It is very important to make sure you obtain your Cavalier from a responsible breeder who does health testing on their breeding stock. In May of 1998 an International Symposium on Chronic Cardiac Valve Disease (CVD) in the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Five Veterianary Cardiac and Genetic specialists participated in the Symposium which was organized by the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club, USA to bring together specialists and experts to present data and provide guidelines for breeders. The CKCS, USA is continuing to institute programs geared toward the study of this disease.
