Will this replace my outlook express?
NO! This is meant to give you the opportunity to view spam messages and viruses just in case you have it set so strong, it starts blocking messages from your friends. If you don't care, you never have to visit the message center. All messages will be held there, and eventually age off and be deleted.

What do you mean "Complete Control"?
This new service will give you a web page that you can go in and tell it how much spam you want to block. Or even if you want to block spam at all. Anyone familiar with hotmail knows they have a control panel that is similar. This one would be much more complete and if you turn it "all the way up" you should get no spam. Hotmail does a good job, but this service would be 100% better.

This control panel would also allow you to see any spam that was blocked, in case you really want to see what was blocked, but none of it will reach your computer.

Will I need a virus scanner on my home computer?
Technically, no. This service will do all of the blocking for you. Power Web still recommends that you have a virus scanner. This service will only block viruses sent via email, it will not block them from disks that are infected, or any viruses that aren't spread via email.

Why $1 per month?
This is a service that Power Web has to pay for and we pass this cost along to you. Some services charge as much as $25 per month for this service. The average is $5 per month.

What do I have to change on my computer?
That's the beauty. Absolutely nothing. When you sign up for this, we will turn it on for you and then send you the information on how to reach your control panel to change any settings. But as far as your computer goes, nothing changes.

Can I use this for my hotmail account?
This service only works with powerweb.net and powerweb.com accounts. If you have email with another service and have it forwarded through your Power Web account, it will filter all the mail.

I have a domain, can I use this service?
As long as the domain is hosted by Power Web, you can. If you move your domain somewhere else, we can no longer cover you with this service.

What if I don't want to pay $1 per month?
After the 30 day trial, simply turn off the proctection, you wil not be billed. But you will no longer be protected against viruses and spam. All ISP's (Power Web included) are beginning to get tough with people who spread viruses, since this disruption is more than we can afford to deal with. You will begin seeing this as a national trend in the coming years.

I am not sure about this. Can I try this?
We will give everyone 30 days of free virus/spam protection and allow you to turn it off and on as you wish. Then after the 30 days, we will warn everyone that is not interested to turn it off and you will not be billed.

What happens next?
We will begin the process today (5/9/02). Everyone will have the spam and virus filter turned on automatically. Everyone will receive a free 30 day trial. If after the 30 days, you decide it's not worth it, simply turn it off and you will not be billed.

I have a domain, but host my own mail. How does that affect me?
Unfortunately, this is proprietary to our mail server. Only Power Web and any hosted domains by Power Web are eligible.

So you turn it on, and I am responsible to turn it off? Isn't this "slamming"?
The problem I am facing is that it now takes me 30 to 60 minutes every day to delete all the emails from my inbox that are riddled with viruses. I write each person down and send them a notice that they have a virus. Some people are repeat offenders and I keep sending them notices, which they promptly ignore.

I do this for several reasons:
- If the person is sending viruses, we don't want them helping to propogate the problem.
- If they have a virus, chances are their computer is acting improperly, which makes their internet experience very bad. Which of course they blame us for. Even if they have read my virus note.
- If they are sending viruses I get "hate mail" from other customers and customers of other services who claim persuant to some blah blah law, they can sue me for allowing malicious code to travel through my service.

In the coming years, you will see many internet services adopt zero tolerance policies in regards to viruses and spam. We currently have a zero-tolerance spam policy (if you send it, you are terminated), and are moving toward a strict policy for virus passers, especially those repeat offenders.

In regards to "slamming", that's charging you for a service that you didn't want. Since we are offering it free for the first 30 days, we aren't really slamming you. Everyone will get plenty of notice, and considering our prices have not changed in over 4 years, people will notice even if they ignore all the other bits of information.

What if I decline and change my mind later? The service is available to all Power Web customers. You will always be able to use this service or turn it off.
